abcblock1.gif (313 bytes) Why do you need special vehicle coverage?
1 If you use your vehicle to transport children, you are doing livery.
Livery is transporting people for a fee. The fee you charge, if it's not separately accounted for, is assumed to be included in the tuition you charge.
Most personal auto insurance policies exclude coverage for livery.
If you have an incident involving children in your vehicle,
you may not have any protection.
abcblock1.gif (313 bytes) Who's Insured?
1 In California, Vehicle Insurance follows the vehicle. Coverage is for a vehicle.
In California, the registered owner of a vehicle is responsible for the safe operation of that vehicle.
Anyone operating your vehicle with your permission becomes your responsibility.
If someone operates your vehicle with your keys, permission is considered to have been given.

2

Make sure your insurance policy names the registered owner of your vehicle as the named insured.

3

Verify that all drivers are properly licensed and listed as drivers.
Vehicles with a seating capacity over 8 (7passengers + driver)
require driver with a class 2 or class B license.
4 Verify that all owned vehicles are listed on your policy
If Trailers are owned, check if they should be listed too.

Vehicle Liability

Vehicle liability coverage protects you if your vehicle is used in a way that causes bodily injury to someone else or property damage to someone else.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage

Until California effectively deals with its high percentage of vehicles on public roads operating without vehicle insurance, Uninsured Motorist Coverage must be considered.
Pays for your and your passengers medical bills and related expenses as a result of an accident in which you were not at fault and the at-fault vehicle was uninsured.
Do You Need Uninsured Motorist Coverage ?
Employees are covered through your Workers Compensation
Children are covered through your Accident Policy
If you are negligent, your Vehicle Liability pays for other people and others' property.
If You operate the vehicle, You should have this.
What is meant by 'not at fault'?
Not at fault usually means not negligent.  But, the fact that 'not at fault' doesn't always mean 'not negligent' proves how unclear our laws, Court rulings, social trends and the insurance industry are about it.
Sometimes, people have even had to sue their own insurer to prove they were not at-fault.
Some of the ambiguity results from "what is negligence".
