A Hired Vehicle can be a chartered vehicle like a bus or van,  public transportation or even a taxi that is used in conjunction with your school. Sometimes, a parent or other volunteer driving his/her car for a school event can be considered "chartered".

Private bus and taxis are required to have a 5 million dollar liability policy. Public transportation usually has "self-insurance". Hired Auto coverage protects you if the transportation you arranged for the children (or others) doesn't have adequate insurance at the time of an accident or if somehow an injured party thinks you were negligent when you selected the chartered bus or van,  Public Transportation or taxi.
